Lon- Just because you're paying too much for your hosting service doesn't mean CORSA should too. Web hosting is one of the most competitive products out there.

At my work our internet service provider (the company that we go thru to connect to the internet) charges $30 a month for web hosting service, with a 50 meg limit. That's $360 a year. that was too much, when you consider we got UNLIMITED server space and a TON more features, for $144 a year. My IPS provides 5 MEGS of space for $24.95 a month. I opted for UNLIMITED from another company for $66 a year instead. Just because that's what you're paying, doesn't make it the best value.

Lon- Your web page takes under 50 megs. Mine is over 2 GIGS. My web hosting service gives me unlimited server space for $66 A YEAR. If you're actually paying $102 per month for JUST HOSTING (e.g. they're not building, maintaining your actual web site... creating the files, taking the photos, etc...) you're paying way too much. I have downloaded your site to my computer (anyone can do this) and I can upload a copy of it to my site and effectively create a mirror "host" to demonstrate that this is basically a no cost thing once server space is signed up for with a hosting provider.

I have checked my math. I've been on the web for 15 years, and build and maintain my own web site, and that of my employer -- a commercial broadcast station that uses up dozens of gigs of server space a month, including thousands of photos, tons of audio, podcasts, video's, and more. Their service costs about $140 a YEAR, and they use simplehost which offers a few more fancy doodads than I need. I was on Simplehost but changed to fatcow this year for $66 a YEAR.

Visit my site at http://www.edselmotors.com
(I also host our local Corvair club site there, at NO COST to the club and write, build, maintain their site, although they have a small site and it doesn't need updating often, however ALL our newsletters are there and available for download at NO COST to ANYONE) Get there at

If you feel like staring at me or listening to the show, click on the Morning Mess, and go from there. You can download mp3's of the program. Been doing that show here for 22 years! There's an awfu lot of stuff there for $140 a month, so you can see why I'm perplexed at what you or CORSA is paying. Again, unles of course, you're getting more than just hosting for that money.

Increasingly logic AND number crunching has a place in the discussion. And comparison shopping is always a good thing.

ALSO, I'm sure Bryan is doing a wonderful job, things work nicely and I have no beef with him, or with him getting paid to do the work. BUT the financials make it appear that just the simple cost of HOSTING is costing $900 a year when it could be costing much less. Bryan can still do what he does, we just put the physical data on a server at a company that charges far less. It seems there's some confusion between hosting, administering, and building a web site. If Bryan is hosting this all on his own server, going with a world wide hosting service with a large staff, and 24-7 monitoring, built in backups, etc.. etc... would be far better than a one man operation, and cost less. Bryan can still be what he is, and do what he does.

There is no reason for CORSA to be paying for a "dedicated server". This is not a person, but a computer. Huge corporations with mountains of data and thousands upon thousands of people accessing the site are the folks who need dedicated servers. CORSA does not. A hosting service from either of those I've mentioned, or dozens of others will far surpass our needs, Bryan can still do what he does with it.

"Hi - My corvairunderground.com hosting costs me $102.00 a month - that's
1200.00+ a year. People seem so convinced that Corsa is mismanaged that
they don't even check their math before they accuse. It seems that
increasingly logic has no place in this discussion. Lon"
