When I upgraded my cam, the info Comp sent me strongly recommended using any oil except synthetic. Their reasoning was that synthetic oils do too good a job and that additional lubricity (?) was harmfull to flat tappet cams & lifters. Basically the lifter is too slick and won't rotate and will wear incorrectly.  They did reccommend adding ZDDP to the oil change. Not an engineer but I'll take their word for it.
