I still have a lot of Dad's old 78's. Sometimes I work on trying to
transfer them to more modern media.

Ha! While washing the inside of the windshield on our modern Chevy just now,
The Thing again went through my mind and I further remembered that
boom-boom-boom substituted for "son of a bitch," which I think he sang in
off-air appearances.

I don't remember the "Department Store," but we had a lot of 78's, then
33-1/3's, when I was a kid.

You are correct The . . . in the lyrics represent that.

Does anybody remember "I Used To Work In Chicago, In A Department Store"?
Dad used to have the 78 for both The Thing and "I Used . . . ". They were
two of his favorite novelty songs.

I'm glad we didn't have an 8 track in the Corvair. Dad would have found a
way to record all his favorite songs off onto 8 track just so he could
listen to them in the car.

My memory says the refrain included three beats of a bass drum: "Get out of
here with that [boom-boom-boom]," etc.
