Fear not, I took Ron's comment the way I think it was intended, tongue in 
cheek =).  One of the many things that really helped to encourage my 
interest in the Corvair was the fact that the community doesn't generally 
look down on customization... I had a 68' Corvette convertible as my first 
car and caught hell from the Corvette community for having a custom air 
cleaner, valve covers, and wider tires....  it drove me away pretty quick.
