i played with several exhaust combinations on a 64 110hp  a long time  ago. 
 if you do it all at the same time , you can REALLY feel the  difference 
between stock and no muffler , then put the duals on it.  i  don't remember 
the details on mileage , but duals make a large improvement. BUT  to get the 
real benefit , you must pay attention to carburetors and distributor  curves 
also. my old , not professional way of  setting up the distributor ,  was to 
remove one spring from the mechanical advance , reset the timing   
(watching for pinging or hard hot restart) and up the jet size a couple  steps in 
the carbs.  this combo nets you better mileage AND  power.  if you want to 
spen a lot of money and hard work on this , there  are a lot of things you can 
do to the heads and motor in general, i am just  throwing out ideas i have 
tried over the years that are not hard to do , or  expensive.
another one i  remember trying on a 64 110hp years ago , was going to  a 
older 50's powerglide chevy single muffler   that was still quiet  and less 
backpressure .    now for the pros to answer...
