Harry, there is a shaft that goes into the diff from the tranny, and
an adjustment ring for the diff bearing that extends into the trans
cavity a bit, but other than that, it should slip apart. There is a
gasket and if it has been glued together for awhile, that may be all
that is holding it.

I just looked at my 62 4 speed and diff to confirm. I'd use a couple
of thin screwdrivers, one on each side and apply even pressure, should
come apart. Mark Durham
