Carlton- I had replaced the pilot bushing five years ago on my car and put a few thousand miles
on it with no problems, however, it screached once after a long trip. A few months after that, I blew
up the clutch, and then had to pop the engine out to fix the exploded clutch plate. I determined that
my input shaft was no longer straight, and replaced the input shaft, clutch plate, and had the pressure
plate and flywheel rebalanced. That was in 2008, and I have put 15,000 miles on it since then with
absolutely no problems with screachy pilot bushings. Probably, your input shaft is a bit worn, or is
somehow slightly undersize, and is causing the screach, untill it gets warm. All pilot bushings that
I have bought for my Corvairs, including the one I bought in 2008, were Oilite (not brass orsome other
weird wrong material that a magnet can stick to), and on all of them, it was a chore to get the
input shaft in, as it had a slight interference into the new pilot bushing (once the bushing was installed).
All of my pilot bushings were from Clarks.
