In Peoples Republic of California you are driving when stopped at a stop
light.

Subject: <VV> Corvairs and seat belts ~ retrofitting to suit new laws ?

Cops are very superficial (as has been duly shown in previous messages) ~
they look for the part of the seat belt that comes over the shoulder, and
sans visual evidence, will pull you over hoping to pay for their Christmas
party or win the office pool on who gets the most tickets.

It may eventually be required to retrofit Corvairs with shoulder belts (my
1969 Monza convertible had them as a "special order"), but as of now, if it
didn't have them as <standard equipment., you are not required to have
shoulder belts.

I'm not sure if lap belts are required if the car didn't have them when new
? And would the cop/court be more interested in the potential revenue than
reasonably interpreting the law?
