<VV> differentials

A friend and I got to talking about various different rear end ratio's on
Corvairs last night.   My understanding is that a PG diff can't be used on
a manual and vice versa.  Also a late diff can't be used on an early and
vice versa.  Is all that correct?

Next question;  can you swap a diff from a 65 4-speed onto a 66 4-speed?
How about the reverse?   Are all 65' up Powerglide (car) diffs the same?

Last;  what about swapping internal parts.  Can you put a 3:89 set of gears
into a late model diff?
