Harry, You might try doing it on cheep budget. Keep looking on eBay for the used
parts you need, Sometimes there are good deals on assorted but OK engine parts.
Gotta know what size engine you have there first. 145 or 164.

Hope you get better responses from the group.

Subject: <VV> bad news

Hi Guys,
I finally got tired of looking at my Rampside sitting & rusting. Some of you
may recall earlier this year when I lost my job I had just disassembled the
engine. I had sent the heads out and removed the jugs. It looked pretty good
inside. After I lost my job I had no money to continue, I also lost my
indoor storage which was at my job. The truck has been sitting outside in
the parking lot at my condo since. The engine block and other parts were
sitting in the bed. About 2 months ago when I finally got a new job I took
the engine block there intending to start working on it again. I am still
catching up on bills and have no money for parts so it sat some more. Today
I decided to continue. When I first took it apart it looked pretty good
inside, I pulled one rod cap and it looked great so I put it back. Now after
being outside in the South Florida rainy season it does not look so great,
there is rust on the rods & rings and corrosion on the pistons. I clened
some stuff off the inside and looked closely at the rods and noticed some
discoloration on 3 caps. Moving the pistons on those 3 showed some play at
the crank. I pulled the one with the most play and found a spun bearing. I
have damaged rods & crank. I still do not have a lot of money to spend so I
am asking for some advice. What are my options? New crank, rods & bearings?
Reground crank? Used parts? I also found one of my jugs has a piece broken
off the sealing edge so I need at least one jug. Now that I have to tear it
down completely I want to replace everything, cam, crank, bearings, pistons,
jugs, rings & lifters but I do not have funds to do that. I guess I am
asking for opinions.
Thanks, Harry Smith
