<VV> Slightly OT rant re pedals

I'm not sure how you drive, but I push on the accelerator pedal as I
release the clutch pedal....

And on a hill you need all three! It is easy for me with size 14s to use
all three pedals on a hill. If the brake was to the far left, I don't think
it would be possible to use all three at once. OK, maybe, heel on brake,
toe on clutch... wait, I said large feet, heel on brake, ball on clutch,
toe on accelerator. Hey, the accelerator's floored! I need that extra space
to the right of the accelerator pedal to have my right foot hang over the
tranny tunnel (or space in a Corvair).

Henry used three pedals, but none were accelerator, so he didn't do the
common layout.

So an oddball question crossed my mind the other day:
why are the control pedals under our dasboards arranged
the way they are?

Wouldn't it make much more sense to have the CLUTCH pedal
next to the gas and the BRAKE to the far left?

You have to lift your foot off the gas to release the
clutch anyway....

And if the brake were on the outside you wouldn't have the
'my car ran away with me because I thought I was stomping the
brake but I was really putting the gas to the floor' problem.

Who arranged the pedals thusly? Henry Ford?
