Hi folks, I just want to add two cents here.  I have run my Corvairs successfully with only one thermostat, by disconnecting one of the damper doors from its thermostat, leaving one connected, and connecting both thermostat doors externally with a length of sheet steel.      This way a single thermostat operates both doors.  I believe this was in the Corsa Tech Guide.  It may not resolve all the problems, but it reduces the cost of buying two thermostats.  Or you can buy two and same the second as a spare.
 
I find these the ones you'd buy from Clarks only last a couple of years, so this can run into some money when you have to use two...Bill Hershkowitz 66 Monza 110 PG A/C
