That's exactly right. There's NO CHANGE in rpm, but then after a few
seconds it corrects itself (mostly by flooring the accelerator). There's
always normal pedal resistance, so I can't imagine that the linkage is
coming unglued somewhere and then miraculously reconnecting. Makes an
interesting puzzle.

In response to a couple suggestions, I'll be taking the fuel pump apart
and inspecting/cleaning it today. It's been untouched for about the last
six or seven years, except for taking it on and off the motor while I'm
doing other stuff, so it can't hurt to have a look. It's a completely
stock, original equipment mechanical unit, and the last time I had it
apart, the diaphragm looked to be in perfect shape and very stout. I'll
post an update with whatever I find.
