Hard drives are about twice as thick as CD's. I've found that computer repair shops will provide old broken hard drives. I got this last batch for free and I even offered to pay them.

i all,
I too have been struggling with this for years now as the last two conventions
e went to both my wife's and mine were DNFs but the designs were appreciated (
locomotive and a valve cover race on top of a valve cover racer). I have
ried to get the weights as close to max as possible and have tried a number of
heel bearings. CDs are brittle on max weights so I'm curious where this thread
oes.

K not directly Corvair related but definitely a Corvair tradition.
hat are folks using for VC racer wheels?
'm debuting my second VC car at the Roundup this weekend. Both of my cars have
ed computer hard drives for the wheels and "tires." The bearing in these
eels seem to be very load sensitive. It may be to the point that the simple
ysics of more weight equals more speed doesn't apply. I hope to get some track
me tomorrow afternoon and will run some experiments. Our new track (purchased
om ICE) has timing equipment.
'm considering wheels and tires from roller skates or roller blades for the
avier duty bearings. What other simple/easy/cost effective bearing sources are
t there?
