Just wanted to update the list - I obtained another proper 64 Steering "Mast Jacket" and installed it over the weekend.   I elected to clean and paint it, but the actual removal of the old one and installation of the new one was roughly an hour.  That includes chasing my grandsons around the driveway from time to time.  While looking for a 64 model, I obtained a whole steering box and shaft assembly.  They are definitely different.  The earlier unit has a larger "boss" at the top of the gearbox, to which the jacket is brazed.  The 64 box has a smaller diameter "boss" or nub on top, over which the jacket fits snugly and is then clamped into place.  All above the floor, no under vehicle crawling required.   I still am amazed at the development money that was spent to make small changes to a vehicle that Chevy had to know was going to go out of production.  The vent flap, the steering jacket, the shifter on the manual tranny units, etc.

Anyhow, Im back on the road and Thanks to several folks that offered parts and suggestions.

Subject: <VV> FC Steering Column Jacket needed

So Im driving me and my daughter home from kickball practice and the turnsignal felt a little sloppy.  Then, the steering wheel and shaft seemed to move side to side a lot more than usual.   Short drive, thankfully.  Got home, pulled the wheel off and the signal switch and found the end of the column at the top was missing two of the four "tabs" that hold the cone and switch and bearing and the whole top end of the steering shaft in place from side-side movement.

See the pic.

Anyone got a spare column jacket I can buy for a reasonable cost?   Its a 64 if it matters.  I dont know if it does.   If someone in the DFW has one, I can come and get it to avoid packing/shipping.

This is my Daily Driver, so I need it back in service asap!!

I have to drive the "old Man Car" (94 olds 88 ) in the mean time.  Ugh!!

Thanks!

I posted this on CCF also, but not everyone reads both.
