The distributor would turn the normal direction....if not, the oil pump 
would pump oil out of the crankshaft and cam....reverse rotation gears and 
cam are easily
purchased.

Were all engines set to rotate the same way? I suspect either the
Studebaker was a reverse rotation engine from the factory or maybe they
special ordered the Corvair motors as reverse rotation engines. It would be
easy to tell if someone could get close to that thing and see which way the
distributor rotor turned, where the timing marks were, was it a reverse
rotation blower on top, too? etc.
