OK - So, let's back up a step (or two).  Did the mechanic do any more "work" 
on this engine other than what you already mentioned?  Take a look at his 
bill to see what was done.

I take it that the noise was not there prior to his work?

You are convinced that the problem came up after his work?

How many miles are on the "bottom end" of this engine?

Was there an oil change?  What (specific) oil was used?
