<VV> Solid flywheel revisted

I pulled the engine today.....as David Clemens suggested, 6 of the welds were broken on the ring gear. The teeth were also chewed and chipped
as I have never seen before. I know those welds weren’t broken when I installed the PP, so what happened here....what’s the chicken , and what’s the egg?
What initiated this whole process...?
