Ok, guys........after all the hubbub and crap going on about the CORRECT tranny/gear lube for our Corvairs,  as an Amsoil dealer, I finally called them and talked at length to a tech rep.  It seems about everyone on here and their info is pretty much full of crap.  The dude said most of what was being said was based on 20 or more year old information!!!  Things are changing like nobodies'  business!!!!!
I can't even  begin to remember everything he said, but the upshot of it all is this:  As far as Amsoil is concerned, GL - 5 is the only gear lube to use!!!!!!!  It won't hurt a thing!  As for the manual tranny thing, he said if it has "MT-1" on the  bottle of gear oil, it's compatible with our Corvairs!!!  If anyone takes issue with this info, here is their corporate phone # :  715-392-7101.    Just tell them who you are, what you want, and that you'd like to talk to "technical services".  I guarantee it will be an educational experience.
Oh yeah, I run Amsoils' 75W-90 long life synthetic gear lube (API GL-5/MT-1)  FGRQT-EA  in my '60 with the 4spd.  No runs, no drips, no errors.  Works like a champ!
