<VV> Early Convertible doors question

I plan on taking the doors off of my Early Convertible to paint the jambs.
The fit is fairly nice now. I was going to index the hinges by drilling an
1/8" hole through the hinge into the body. This way I will have a better
baseline for final alignment when I reinstall the doors. But the way the
hinges are made doesn't allow for this convenience due to the angles. Does
anyone on here have experience performing this operation? I would
appreciate any advice that will help me keep the alignment close to where
it is.
