Let me expand on this one line below.

Turn the pump over and over until it unscrews from the short pipe which 
connects the pump and the splitter block.  Leave the pipe with the block.

You need to hold the block with pliers or vice grips INITIALLY in order to 
keep the lines out to the carbs from flexing.  Once the pipe breaks loose 
from the pump, you don't need that tool any longer.  You can put a rag 
between to keep from scoring the splitter block if you so desire.

This method works along side the roadway and can have you back on the road 
in about 15 minutes.
