<VV> Oil temp

Joel, we are talking apples and oranges here. Bob is talking oil temps, not
water temps.

Most good std dino oils are rated to 275F before they start to fail. So the
numbers Bob mentions on std oil temps in the 220-240 range are pretty
normal.

Water keeps the heads and cylinders in a std temp range for water pumpers,
air cools the cylinders and heads in our corvairs, oil continues to
lubricate and cool the internals by pressure in the bearings and by splash
on the piston bottoms, rods, crankshaft, case, cam, lifters, and the rocker
arm system in both engine types.
As engine temps, (water temps and pressures) have gone up, so have oil
temps. Some cars, including the corvair engines, use a oil cooler to help
keep the temps in line.
