That is not necessarily true. If you should be so unlucky as to have a  
timesert or even a Helicoil tear out, you can still save the crankcase by  
making,.or buying, an oversize insert. For example you can use a 9/16 bolt and  
tap the crankcase for it. Then cut off the threaded portion of the bolt to 
fit  the crankcase depth (e.g.,1 inch) Then drill and tap a hole in the 
center of the  axial length of the bolt-portion the fit the head stud. Of course 
you will have  to recut the head stud threads.
 
Larry Claypool used to sell these upon request....probably still  does.
