Sounds like too much crankcase pressure. Either problems with PCV  system 
or compression blow by issues. If you put cork in there , you are  just 
masking the real problems , that pressure has to go somewhere, such as thru  PCV 
to carbs  , or causing oil leaks at Valve covers ,top cover , or even  crank 
seals . There is a device made for checking crankcase pressure  / PCV  
performance .by Echlin. Of course there are other methods , and things to  check.
