<VV> Late model brake light sockets

Hi all, When I replaced my sockets, I found some plastic ones with a ground
tab. Thinking this looked a bit flaky, I soldered a ground wire to the tab
and grounded the other end with a ring terminal on an adjacent bolt. A nice
but unintended consequence of this is if you need light in the engine room
at night, simply unplug the socket from the lens assembly and you've got a
nice bright trouble light as the bulb will continue to burn regardless.

Subject: <VV> Late model brake light sockets

I seem to recall a tech tip from somewhere that suggested (if my memory is
correct) a metal shell Chrysler brake light socket that would fit the late
model brake light housing.

Does anyone remember that? Is there a better brake light socket than the
standard GM "plastic with metal insert that comes loose" socket?
