<VV> [UV] Re: Powerglide fix: TransX versus Chemtool B12 in a pour can

I once had a a Powerglide that had been sitting for some unknown length of
time and had an unknown history before that. It was similarly slow engaging
either low or reverse from neutral. I never timed it but it seemed like an
eternity. I assumed it was a valve not moving as intended. I removed the
pan and took the bottom off the valve body. I cleaned the valves that can
be accessed with what I had opened up. That fixed it. The total cost was a
pan gasket and a valve body gasket, no snake oil required.

I have also tried TransX to no avail. My 65 4 door and Ultra Van both had
Powerglide problems. The 65 4 door would not shift into high gear until it
warmed up, which took several miles. The Ultra van took up to 15 seconds to
shift into reverse. At a CORSA Convention a few hears ago I spoke with
Larry Claypool about my powerglide problems. He recommended AT-205
Re-Seal by ATP Automotive. He warned ONLY USE A HALF OF THE BOTTLE. IF YOU
USE THE WHOLE BOTTLE YOU WILL MELT ALL THE SEALS AND HAVE TO PULL THE
TRANSMISSION AND RE SEAL IT. So I put ½ the bottle in the 65 4 door with
200K on it and it started to shift normally and still does. The other ½
went into the Ultra Van and now it shifted in to reverse normally. I have
125K on the Ultra Van powerglide. I purchesed it from Summit Racing in
Reno, about $10.
