Frank,
I'm not sure what your point was about the comment that timing doesn't care
about what triggers it.  While the timing may not care what triggers it, it
will certainly be affected by the dwell setting on a point system.  That's
why I suggested that the timing be rechecked after putting points back into
the distributor of the '65 140 from a previous electronic system.
The dwell setting absolutely affects ignition timing if it is changed.
Standard tune-up procedures always prescribe that timing be set after
points are installed and adjusted, either with feeler gauges or a dwell
meter.  Dwell is the amount of distributor rotation that occurs when the
points are closed so when they open after this time period, the plug is
fired due to the collapse of the secondary circuit in the coil.
Just trying to make it clear for someone going back to the old system.
