<VV> piston noise

Very hard to record that type noise and have it sound like it really is.  In my case with the extreme situation , it sounded very much like cam / lifter noise!. But it would not adjust out , and was very even (all cylinders ). I finally took it apart and touched an exposed skirt , which resulted in a click noise. Then I really got checking things!.
 My present problem will probably get all new regular cylinders and pistons , maybe .030 or 040.
