When I was a kid I badly over-heated my old banger one night. Must have 
cracked something with the heat, as from then on it would boil up in no 
time. The only way I could get home was to remove the spark plugs and 
pushrods from the two middle cylinders that were affected, and drive 
home on the remaining two cylinders, with twenty gallons of water in the 
trunk. I never had to touch the water - it was now effectively 
air-cooled! Damn slow up hills but it got me home.
