If it is the switch either sticking or mis-adjusted - that should be somewhat easy. Much more common for the height of the pedal to move when the parking brake is applied. I understand that this may not be your issue, but adjusting of the parking brake and the pull distance can make the difference that can kill the battery, if you don't notice it. With the parking brake off, how much up-down play is there at the top of travel, before the actual movement of the master cylinder and the switch activation? The rod is hard to get to, and has a locking "nut", but it may be worth removing much of that play. It will make adjusting the switch location much easier.

My brake lights stay on after I press on the pedal.  I tried adjusting the brake light switch to no avail. How about adjusting the rod?   66 monza
