Hey Chuck;
I dug up some old Chrysler block prints after I sent in my first reply and
I found a general hardness number of 170-179HB, minimum.   Also on the
print was a special note saying that hardness in the bore area was to be
229HB (no minimum mentioned).
Depending on where you're checking, you may find a hardness difference on
the Corvair jug but it can/could be adjusted with cooling rates for specific
needs.  Sometimes you get hard spots if the casting cools too fast in that
area.
Sorry I missed this on the first reply but I couldn't find the drawing.
