Hi PPCC,
First off it was great to see a lot of you at the TR-STATE. Since we are
out here in Grand Junction, its the only time we get to see many of you. My
wife and I had a great time even though we were eliminated by "The Twins"
in the fan belt toss. :)
I am a newbie to this hobby and so I would like to get some opinions on two
things:
Metal prep / painting / rust inhibition. My son and I are working on his 67
Monza. The underside of the car (and inside floor pans) are in pretty good
shape with mostly surface rust. In other forums I see that folks use
Rustoleum or similar rusty metal primers and then follow up with a hammer
finish or similar metal paint, and some folks use more extreme products
like POR15. I have Richard Finch's, "How to keep your Corvair Alive," and
he seemed to be a fan of Rustoleum. What have you folks used or would
recommend?
Another question. I mentioned his floor pans are in good shape - except the
rear passenger side pan under the seat. This is the area where the
accelerator pedal rod pivots. It is rusted through and the pivot rod is no
longer attached to anything. I saw this same thing on a parts car we
purchased and wondered if this is common? I think I can weld in a plat to
replace it but wondered what others may have done?
Thanks,
JK
