In addition to the possibility of failure at the forward (ball end) of the cable (very common), check for failure of the weld where the lever arm (by the radio) connects to the underdash cross shaft. Also, check in the tunnel to see if the cable has jumped the pulley. I've seen both of these more than once. Craig Nicol
