Now, in my dunebuggy towing instance, we overfilled the transaxle, 
added a load of motor oil to really fill it up... the logic being 
that such an overfill would likely get the oil level up enough for 
the synchros/idlers to dip into it during regular sloshing and weep 
some oil onto the mainshaft bushings and keep from frying them.

It worked.   No heating issues on the transmission, or no more so 
than what one would expect from normally driving one.    I sure 
didn't wanna cook a perfectly useable transaxle by arbitrarily towing 
it without doing *Something* to insure that it didn't fry.

And yes, lube DID come out of the top vent and greased up the top of 
the differential bigtime.
