<VV>GM Power Windows (unlikely Corvair)

And every one of these power window and wiper motors
were made right here in Rochester, NY, at the old
Delco (now Valeo) plant. I know a number of the
people that have worked there over the years, and they
all tell the same story: GM spent the 80s and 90s
trying to figure out how to make a CHEAPER motor, not
a better one. Case in point: the rear-door vent
windows in '78-'82 4-door, A-body cars. Remember
these, where the main window wouldn't roll down, but
the little vent could be opened manually or by power?
The motor developed by Delco for this application was
so strong that it would bend the arm that moved the
window in and out. Did they spend a few cents and
make the arm stronger? Noooooo, the order came down
from engineering to make a less powerful motor. And
GM wonders why they're in trouble today.....
