You're right, they were a little heavier. However,  the rear brakes on 
a Z have nowhere near as demanding a job as the rear brakes on a 
Corvair. Just look at the brake balance.

Ken,  If memory serves the Z cars were about the same and, later,  
heavier
than Corvairs.
