Actually most historians are suprised that Chevy continued building the Corvair 
after '66.  with all those Federal safety features they had to incorporate 
starting with the '67s, the Vair must have been the most expensive car in the 
Chevy line to build, and it (the 500 coupe) was marketed in 1967 as the "lowest 
priced two door hardtop in America."

Doesn't make corporate sense, and Ralph probably did have a lot to do with Chevy 
keeping the Corvair alive through 1969, even though I think his politics are 
vile.
