<VV> Building one as opposed to buying one

As most of you know I built a fairly nice Crown mid-engine v8 car. Always
wanted to do that.
I had no idea how much time and money it would take. Yes, it would have been
cheaper to find the best example and buy it.
Although it would have been hard to find one like what I built at that time.
If I charged myself for the labor I couldn't afford me!
The big intangible here was, the joy of learning new skills, having a real
reason to buy some cool new tools (do us guys NEED a reason?) and
end up with a Corvair that went far beyond my original modest plans. The
great feeling of personal satisfaction at having accomplished way more than
I ever dreamed I was capable of has immeasurable value. I still feel it to
this day and the V8 car has been gone from my inventory for years.

I have repeated this feat by building another of my dreams. The Yenko
Stinger clone race car. Of course a race car is never "done" either and its
always in a state of flux. I had always thought all the hard work to create
a car was just a means of getting to the real reason. That was to drive and
enjoy
the car which, the race car certainly does but, I have to admit my wife was
right when she stated a long time ago that I get more satisfaction from
building them than I do driving them. Not much more though.

I hate when that happens!
