<VV> Corvair steering box lash adjust screw turns with locknut ?

IIRC, the screw has a head captivated by the "sector shaft?" or output
shaft, and cannot be removed by unscrewing it. The head slides into a slot
at the top of the shaft.

No.  Just don't let any grit get into the hole if you take it all the  way
