Unfortunately being drunk helps the criminal to survive a crash too, 
hopefully to live with the guilt ?

All too often the sober, the law abiding citizen is the victim of the 
accident and of the crime agains society which is only recently regognized 
as the crime that it is.

The welded-on front quarters of the Corvair are a big safety factor as 
opposed to the bolt-on fenders of typical cars of the era.  Hard to fix, but 
more protection ?
