Yes, and its center of gravity is what really made the Corvair stand out.

The ground clearance (and flat floor) let me skip across an unexpected 
"pond" that magically appeared in the road ahead with no time to stop 
(except in the middle of it).
I floored it and skimmed across, much to the amazement of those who were 
stuck in it (some, whose windows were open, were not as happy) !
