Randy, all previously said is true, however, there is another option, how be
it, costly. There are many examples of later generation cars with engines of
similar size to corvair in bore, stroke and RPM range in cars of similar
weight that produce the same or more power on regular fuel. But they are
either TBI or MPFI and a computer controls the fuel and ignition based on
sensors,  including a knock sensor.

Several have converted their engines to EFI with good success, but is it
cost effective? Probably not, if that is your sole criteria.    Mark Durham
