2 things about mouse findings:  1  in order to clean it out  completely , 
you probably should remove the pushrod tubes and cylinder baffles  to get it 
all out. even high pressure air and vacuum did not get that area on  the 61 
i did , was the "stuff" discolored from heat?  if it was it may have  caused 
heat damage (aka oil consumption ) to cylinders. of course the heater box  
also took a hit , as it was the source of most of the doo doo.   lots  of 
fun ahead..
mine ended up on a club trailer as a running display for car shows, and i  
built a 164 cu inch to replace it.
