<VV> CO Question

In '75 when cats first showed up the thinking was electronic ignitions would keep cars from misfiring. I remember my 1975 Volvo had a cat converter, an EGR system, and a smog pump. All this stuck on a 2 litre 4 cylinder push rod motor with an automatic transmission w/ AC. Performance was certainly not very impressive as I recall.
