<VV> Wheel Bearing maintenance

"Was  there ever a suggested maintenance scheduled for the rear hubs?" 



Looking in my little Corvair book by Chilton's, it reads in part, "these bearings can be made to last indefinitely if they are repacked periodically". They go on to say you should repack the front bearings once a year, but no mention about the time interval to repack the rear bearings. I did see in the Corvette manual, they say every 2 years or 24,000 miles to repack the wheel bearings, but say nothing about front or rear, simply wheel bearings. 



One could think, bearings are bearings and should be treated about the same front or rear. Repacking bearings is the same for front or back, it's a wheel bearing, with the fronts being very simple and the rears are a little more trouble to remove and reinstall.
