Smitty Says;  I gave up years ago thinking of PGs and perfomance in the same thought.  Of course I realize my needs are unique when I have the 1,500 lb barn door on the rear bumper.  You need a different mind set for that.  You come to the mountain and you plant it on the floor.  Then remind yourself that if you wanted to scream up the hill you wouldn't be driving a PG in the first place, or pulling a camper.  So you keep the throttle down and just a little below 40 mph you shift to low.  That puts the engine well back into the torque curve and it is not reving fast enough to hurt it.  Just hold it at 40.  If you let it slip into high you will just have to down shift a few seconds later anyway.  Set the cruise control.  Have a beer.  Well a Coke maybe.  Talk to the Co-Pilot.   And wait.  You will get there.
When it is hot out and you run into the inevetible highway repair or wreck backup that is miles long you can then smile at the stick shift drivers.  Put one foot on the go pedal and the other on the slow pedal and relax.  Talk to the Co-Pilot.  Discuss scenic side trips or where you would like to stop for the night.  You will eventually get through the back-up and roll again.  Stress free.
Like Rick said,  great parade car.  No more charley horses or uncontrolable shakes of the left knee.  You are going to get to the end of the parade same time as the stick shifts.
Don't get me wrong.  I like driving a stick as much as anyone, but don't get too superior about them VS PGs.
