Hi Scott, I do not know about 1961 bench seat, but I had a brand new 1963 500 coupe with a bench seat, and yes, the shifter would touch the seat in 1st. gear and 3rd gear.  This was a 3 speed shifter.  It did depend on how tall the driver was also.  I am rather short, so I had the seat pulled forward.  A taller driver would have the seat pulled back words and maybe the shifter did not touch it.  Hope this helps a little.  Mike

If anyone is going - even from Tampa,  I would like to connect so I  can
get you to order 2 or 3 parts at the Convention from Clarke's for  me.  Any
help appreciated.  I need to take advantage of their discount  at the
Convention.

Please see the below question - any caveman out there that remember - I know there are several different versions for bench and bucket but do not remember the specifics.?

"Question for you - on a 61 bench seat car- should the shifter come back and touch the seat. On a bucket seat car the shifter is longer."?Best regards,
